Dr Craig Baird has experience as an academic in multiple settings commencing with a period as department head in TAFE, which overlapped with a decade of teaching in the areas of education, computer education and technology at Edith Cowan University (ECU). During this period he attained six teaching degrees including postgraduate degrees in Art Education, Computer Education and Master of Education. Following completion of his PhD in Education (metacognition and cognitive apprenticeship) Craig undertook a position at Curtin University as an academic development lecturer in the Learning Support Network. In 2004 he accepted the role of Coordinator, Teaching Initiatives at The University of Western Australia. In 2007 Craig contributed to writing an expression of interest that led to Curtin attaining a multi-million dollar AusAid grant. Throughout 2006 and 2007 Craig conducted research projects to investigate learning opportunities for students with disabilities and ways to ensure student retention at ECU. Also during this period he taught students in technology, education and foundation levels at ECU, Murdoch, and the Online University. It is this background that informs his role as Communication Skills Lecturer at Curtin.
