Brief Summary

Weihua's current research focuses on the palaeogeography of northern Gondwana margin during the latest-Neoproterozoic to early-Paleozoic period, particularly the possible connections between western Australia, northern India, South China and other Asian micro-terranes. She finished her PhD at Curtin in 2014 on "Evolution of the Lower Palaeozoic Nanhua Foreland Basin and Nature of the Wuyi–Yunkai Orogeny, South China". Prior to her PhD, Weihua worked as a Petroleum Engineerer in the Chinese petroleum industry after graduated with a Master degree of Petroleum Geological Engeneering from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan).

Research Interests

Weihua's research interests mainly cover sedimentary basin analysis and using its fingerprint and/or sedimentary record to decipher the tectonic history of the adjacent orogens. Her work integrates field geology and a variety of analytical methods, such as stratigraphic logging, sedimentary mapping, detrital provenance analysis, zircon U-Pb geochronology, and Lu-Hf and oxygen isotopic systems. Her PhD project was focused on the lower Palaeozoic foreland basin evolution related to the Wuyi-Yunkai orogeny in South China, and position of the South China Block during the amalgamation of Gondwana. Her current research expands to the northern Gondwana margin (including western Australia and northern India) and surrounding Asian terranes (e.g., the Indochina and Qiangtang blocks).
