Celebrating the inaugural Humanities Horizons Research Fest
On Friday 4 July, the Faculty of Humanities proudly hosted the inaugural Humanities Horizons Research Fest in collaboration with Research Rumble – a full-day event designed to inspire, connect and challenge researchers at all career stages.
This new initiative brought together academics, early career researchers and HDR students from across the Faculty for thought-provoking discussions, interactive workshops and critical conversations about the future of Humanities research. Sessions explored timely topics including creative practice, ethics and AI, and the evolving landscape of the PhD.
Led by Dean of Research Professor Lucy Montgomery, the event reflected a strong commitment to fostering a collaborative and curious research culture within the Faculty. Participants were encouraged to reflect on their research journeys, exchange diverse perspectives and help shape an inclusive, forward-thinking research environment.
A distinguished group of speakers and presenters generously shared their knowledge and experiences including: Professor Peta Ashworth, Professor Richard Blythe, Professor Jeffrey Brooks, Associate Professor Susanna Castleden, Gemma Cook, Associate Professor Mandy Downing, John Curtin Distinguished Professor Katie Ellis, Bruno Hernandez Alvarado, Paul Hancock, Dr Nikos Koutras, Rio Leksono, Dr Melanie McKee, Kelly Moes, Dr Kathryn Napier, Anneleen Naidoo, Jonathan Pillai, Colby Spatcher, Associate Professor Nicole Slatter, Professor Sue Anne Ware, Marcus Whelband and Associate Professor Andrew Woods.
The success of the first Humanities Horizons Research Fest marks the beginning of an exciting new tradition, strengthening research community ties and celebrating the breadth and impact of Humanities research at Curtin. Thank you to Professor Montgomery and all speakers, presenters and staff involved in the success of this event.
