Curtin’s Centre for Infrastructural Monitoring and Protection (CIMP) recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary at the inaugural International Conference on Infrastructural Monitoring and Protection (CIMP1-2025).

Chaired by CIMP Director Professor Wensu Chen and Deputy Director Professor Jun Li, the conference brought together more than 150 participants, including former CIMP staff, PhD graduates and current CIMP members. It featured eight plenary lectures by internationally renowned experts, an opening address by Acting Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Chris Rawson and a banquet address by the Dean of Engineering and Head of the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering Professor Jonathan Paxman.

CIMP was established in 2015 within the School of Civil and Mechanical Engineering by John Curtin Distinguished Professor Hong Hao to establish Curtin’s research excellence in Structural Engineering and Structural Dynamics. Over its first decade, CIMP has achieved remarkable success, securing 23 CIMP-led ARC grants, including 12 prestigious ARC Fellowships totalling more than $12 million.

Curtin has also been named by The Australian newspaper as Australia’s leading institution in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering for three consecutive years (2023, 2024 and 2025) and Professor Hao was recognised as the Australian research field leader in both fields.

Thank you to everyone involved in the conference and congratulations to the Centre on a decade of outstanding years of excellence.
