Changemakers Challenge inspires sustainable urban design
The 2025 Changemakers for Sustainability Challenge, led by Professor Josh Byrne (Dean, Sustainable Futures), has wrapped up another inspiring year of creativity, collaboration and community impact.
Held from 13 to 30 October in Fremantle and at Curtin’s Bentley campus, the challenge brought together students from The Studio School, Curtin academics, Fremantle community leaders and the City of Fremantle to tackle a live sustainability brief – William Street ‘Reimagined’.
Working together, participants explored new ways to enhance sustainability, liveability and community connection through urban greening in the heart of Fremantle. The experience gave students the opportunity to apply their learning to real-world urban design challenges while building skills in collaboration and innovation.
This year’s challenge once again highlighted the power of partnerships between education, industry, local government and community in driving positive change and reaffirmed the vital role of young changemakers in shaping a more sustainable future.
Thank you to all involved in the Challenge’s success.
