Curtin academic’s documentary premieres worldwide
Senior Lecturer in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, Dr Kerreen Ely-Harper, is celebrating the world premiere of her documentary Close to the Bone.
The film made its international debut on BBC Scotland on Monday night.
In 1948, the SS Ormonde docked at Railway Pier in Port Phillip Bay. Among its passengers were six orphaned brothers and sisters, including Kerreen’s father John. Due to the death of his parents, John’s childhood was interrupted by trauma, poverty and migration.
In 2012, Kerreen embarked on a journey to tell her family’s story on film, exploring her father’s life and asking questions about the past to uncover a difficult family history.
A huge congratulations to Kerreen on this incredible achievement.
The documentary was then further broadcasted on the below dates:
- Thursday 8 January at 10pm GMT / Friday 9 January at 6am AWST
- Saturday 10 January at 9:15pm GMT / Sunday 11 January at 5:15am AWST
Australian viewers with a VPN and a free BBC iPlayer account can watch here, while those in the UK will be able to watch it on free-to-air television with a BBC account.
