In a celebration of Global Futures, Curtin hosted a lively community festival at the Curtin Stadium to celebrate Africa Day 2024, in partnership with the Organisation of African Communities in Western Australia (OACWA).

More than 500 members of WA’s diverse African communities celebrated the annual anniversary of pan-African unity on 25 May, a tradition dating back to 1963. Guest speakers included the Hon Dr Tony Buti, Minister for Education; Citizenship and Multicultural Interests; the Hon Amber-Jade Sanderson, Minister for Health and Mental Health; and the Hon Ayor Makur Chuot MLC.

The lively festival featured a variety of activities, including a soccer tournament, food stalls offering African cuisine, fashion shows and cultural dance and music performances.

The event also marked the first anniversary of the launch of Curtin’s Centre for Australia-Africa Relations. Special thanks to Associate Professor David Mickler, Dean Global, Africa and Director of the Centre for Australia-Africa Relations, and everyone who made this event such a success.
