Curtin’s Centre for Australia-Africa Relations (CAAR) recently hosted a vibrant community lunch in The Lantern to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day, in partnership with the South African Community Kopano (SAck), Curtin African Students Association (CASA), and the Curtin International Relations Society (CIRS).

The lively event featured thoughtful reflections from Associate Professor David Mickler (Dean Global, Africa, and CAAR Director), Jo Cummings (SAck), PhD student Legran Plavy Ntsiele (CASA) and PhD student Ruvi Goredema (Australia Africa Universities Network’s Early Career Researchers Group). Speakers remarked on the ongoing legacies of Mr Mandela’s life, particularly in strengthening Australia-Africa university partnerships, supporting South African diaspora communities and empowering African international students.

Thank you to all involved in bringing this meaningful celebration to life.
