Curtin celebrates sporting excellence at the 2025 Curtin Sport Awards and UniSport Nationals
Curtin’s sporting community shone in 2025, celebrating achievements at the Curtin Sport Awards and showcasing outstanding performances at the UniSport Nationals on the Gold Coast recently.
Olympian and Curtin graduate Jake Harvie was inducted into the Vice-Chancellor’s Elite Athlete Alumni, recognising his journey from Dardanup to representing Australia at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Hosted by Curtin graduate and former Olympian Ashleigh Nelson, the awards honoured the accomplishments of Curtin’s athletes, volunteers and clubs.
At the recent 2025 UniSport Nationals, Curtin athletes also excelled including Gold for Men’s Futsal (Division 2), Silver for Men’s Hockey (Division 1) and Gold for Paige Cover (Taekwondo), helping Curtin climb nine places to finish 26th overall. With Nationals coming to Perth in 2026, Curtin is set to showcase its talent on home soil.
The 2025 sporting year marked significant growth and achievement for Curtin University:
- Curtin Carnival drew more than 1,200 attendees to celebrate sport and community.
- The Curtin Stadium Fitness Centre supported more than 3,000 members.
- The Elite Athlete Program grew to support more than 200 student-athletes.
- More than 200 Curtin students competed in major inter-varsity events including the University Basketball League (UBL), UniSport Nationals, World University Games, and Indigenous Nationals.

- Sport Stars of the Year
- Grace Stewart (Hockey) – A key member and leader within the Hockeyroos, and was voted the Hockeyroos Players’ Player for her integrity, teamwork, and leadership.
- Nicholas Porter (Water Polo) – Representing Australia as goalkeeper for the Aussie Sharks, Nicholas competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics and continues to excel internationally, playing for clubs in Spain and the United States
- Vice-Chancellor’s Elite Athlete Alumni Award – Jake Harvie (Hockey)

- Sports Club Development Award – Curtin University Tennis Club
