Curtin staff and community participated in Reconciliation WA’s Walk for Reconciliation event in Langley Park, Boorloo (Perth) on 2 June, for National Reconciliation Week (NRW).

Teams from Corporate Services, Student Life and Community and the Faculty of Business and Law joined the community to take part in the NRW event while celebrating and reflecting on the importance of reconciliation in Australia.

The journey featured a Welcome to Country by Whadjuk Ballardong elder Robyn Collard and key speakers before the start of the Walk, with multiple Smoking Ceremony fire pits for the walkers to pass through and a large-scale sand-art piece, ending at the Supreme Court Gardens with a special performance.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week was held from 27 May to 3 June. The theme Now More Than Ever, was a reminder that the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will continue.

Thank you to all involved in this event.

Curtin was proud to sponsor a Reconciliation Week Street Banner again this year. The NRW 2024 banners were displayed in prominent locations across the State and featured artwork by Aboriginal artist Renita Brown Nungurrayi. Read more here.
