Curtin’s Multi-faith Services hosted its inaugural Rainbow Multi-faith Celebration on 26 November, in honour of Pride Month. The event brought together more than 50 spiritual leaders, staff and students from ten different faith traditions who are also LGBTQIA+ community members and allies, creating a beautiful example of unity and inclusivity.

The celebration featured a Welcome to Country by Nan Dot, a musical performance by Curtin’s Rhythmos choir, spiritual blessings, prayers, and chants from faith leaders, as well as personal testimonies from students and LGBTQIA+ faith leaders. Attendees also collaborated on a rainbow sand art jar, symbolising a shared commitment to love and unity in diversity.

For many, the service offered an opportunity to connect with inclusive and LGBTQIA+ members of their own faith communities for the first time in a space filled with joy and solidarity – bringing together groups that have often faced marginalisation or persecution.

Special thanks to Multi-faith Officer Janet Augustinsen for leading this meaningful initiative, and to all those who supported the event, including the Perth Rainbow Interfaith Alliance, Acceptance Perth, and Curtin’s People and Culture, Student Life and Community, and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic teams.
