More than 50 members of the Curtin community gathered in Northbridge on Saturday, 23 November, to proudly represent the University in the vibrant PrideFEST Parade organised by Pride WA.

The energetic group, surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colour, walked and danced alongside Curtin’s digital screen float in a spirited celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. Among the participants were Professor Paul Brunton, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic; Professor Xiaotian Zhang, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global; and Chief People Officer Melisa Kaharevic, with members of the Ally Network and the Gender Research Network.

Thank you to Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne and the Senior Executive Team for their ongoing support, special thanks also to Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging’s Sheldon Smith, Jacqui Pike, Pam Spencer and Ariel Wee; Amee Chalwell from the Office of Corporate Services; and Rhiannon Barrett-Nodari from People and Culture for coordinating Curtin’s participation in the PrideFEST Parade.

This event follows the recent publication of the Curtin Gender Affirmation Guide which has been developed through an extensive co-design and consultation process involving staff and students from the Transgender, Gender Diverse, and Non-binary (TGDBN) community. Learn more here.
