Curtin nursing team recognised for paediatric care research
Curtin’s ‘Safer care for children in hospital’ research team, led by Professor Fenella Gill from the School of Nursing, was recognised at the Australian and New Zealand Intensive Care Society and Australian College of Critical Care Nurses Intensive Annual Scientific Meeting in Christchurch on 9 to 11 April.
The event, themed ‘Compassionate Care in the Digital Age: Merging Hearts and Minds’, brings together doctors, nurses and allied health practitioners in the fields of critical care and emergency medicine from both adult and paediatric disciplines.
School of Nursing PhD candidates Chelsea Kelly, Sarah Rooney and Arielle Jolly were all shortlisted for the Best Nursing Scholarship Award, with Chelsea winning the award for her presentation, ‘Assessing clinical deterioration in children with dark coloured skin: health professionals’ perspectives’.
Research Fellow Dr Eileen Boyle also presented a paper and a poster, winning the Best Nursing Paediatric or Neonatal Paper Award for her presentation, ‘Strengthening Aboriginal family involvement in the paediatric ESCALATION system: Aboriginal family experience’.
Congratulations to the entire team on this well-deserved recognition of their work to improve safety and equity in paediatric healthcare.
