Curtin PhD candidate Kia Dowell from the School of Population Health was recently awarded the Outstanding Aboriginal Individual Contributor to Culture and Community Award at the 2025 East Kimberley Aboriginal Achievement Awards by the Wunan Foundation.

Kia, a proud Gija woman from Warmun and Chair of Gelganyem Limited, was recognised for her outstanding national and international leadership. Her PhD explores the deep connections between the healing of Country and healing of Gija women during mine closure in the Kimberley. She also sits on the ARC Centre for Training Healing Country Board.

Congratulations to Kia on this significant and well-deserved achievement.
