Curtin Singapore hosted its first-ever BioBlitz, a fast-paced survey where participants identified as many living species as possible within a short timeframe, using environmental DNA (eDNA) technology. Led by Associate Professor Paul Nevill from the School of Molecular and Life Sciences, the event brought together students, researchers, and industry experts to explore the real-world applications of biodiversity science in business and sustainability.

Students gained hands-on experience in eDNA sampling and analysis, learning techniques used in environmental consulting, urban planning and corporate sustainability reporting. Their discoveries not only deepened their understanding of conservation science but also showcased the growing commercial demand for biodiversity data in ecological assessments and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting. Students who completed the BioBlitz workshop will receive a Certificate of Participation, further strengthening their professional credentials in an evolving job market that values sustainability expertise.

Thank you to Associate Professor Nevill for leading this initiative and to the School of Molecular and Life Sciences and Curtin Singapore team for its support. Following successful BioBlitz events at Bentley and Singapore, plans are underway to expand the initiative to Curtin Malaysia in 2026 and all Curtin global campuses by 2027.
