Curtin’s Binar satellites reach International Space Station
Congratulations to the Binar Team on the successful launch of Binar 2,3 and 4. After a delay due to poor weather, the satellites launched aboard a SpaceX rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on Sunday night, before docking at the International Space Station (ISS) on Tuesday, 6 August 2024.
Excited crowds and media crews gathered at the Northbridge Piazza on Tuesday to watch a replay of the launch followed by a livestream of the rocket’s arrival at the ISS.
This mission is a remarkable achievement for Curtin and marks an important milestone for Western Australia, with the trio of CubeSats carrying instrumentation from Australia’s national science agency CSIRO and Perth-based communications systems company AVI – marking the first time a WA business has sent its goods into space.
Congratulations to Binar Principal Investigator, John Curtin Distinguished Professor Phil Bland, and the entire Binar team on this monumental achievement.
