The Research Office at Curtin came alive with colour, flavour and festivity last week for the ROC DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging) United Nations Day and Cultural Exploration Fair.

Teams from across the Research Office community came together to celebrate the cultures that shape Curtin’s global outlook, sharing food, traditions and stories from Portugal, Iran, Malaysia, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, China and Australia.

The Council Chamber Foyer transformed into a lively international marketplace, filled with tables of homemade dishes and traditional treats, from aromatic curries and Sri Lankan sweets to Aussie classics like lamingtons and butterfly cakes. Staff also showcased Portuguese culture with a nod to Madeira’s famous Bailinho da Madeira folk dance, adding rhythm and energy to the day.

Adding to the festive spirit, staff donned traditional dress and cultural colours, celebrating identity and unity in style. The fun continued with hands-on crafts, kindness cards and friendly competition in Global Trivia and Bingo.

Thank you to the Research Office DEIB Committee for bringing everyone together for a vibrant celebration of culture, connection and community.
