Indigenous Futures ‘ReconciliAction’ student artwork exhibition launch
The Faculty of Humanities launched the Indigenous Futures ‘ReconciliAction’ Exhibition recently, celebrating exceptional artwork and powerful stories from students through the inaugural Humanities Indigenous Futures Artwork Competition.
Associate Professor Mandy Downing, Faculty of Humanities Dean, Indigenous Futures, led the event, which began with a moving Welcome to Country by Alton Wally. Among the attendees was Professor Richard Blythe, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Humanities; Associate Professor Rebecca Walker, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor, Humanities; and Susanna Castleden, Associate Director of the John Curtin Gallery.
Running until July 26, the exhibition is located on Levels 1 and 2 of Building 418 (School of Design and the Built Environment). A highlight of the exhibition is the captivating artwork displayed as a large window decal on the outside of the building, Interconnected, by Olivia Smith, a proud Wongatha woman and Arts Anthropology student who won the top prize in the competition.
Miss Smith’s striking design depicts a human figure against a blue backdrop, surrounded by white dots, representing the study of humanities and a connection to country through the sky and water. Read more about Olivia Smith’s artwork in our media release here.
Thank you to all involved in this captivating event. Watch the video from the exhibition launch here.
