Innovative Curtin research secures Cancer Council WA funding
Three Faculty of Health Sciences researchers have received new Cancer Council Western Australia research grants to support innovative early-stage projects with real-world impact.
Dr Laurence Cheung from the Curtin Medical School and The Kids Research Institute Australia was awarded $139,977 towards creating immunotherapies specifically tailored for children’s immune systems with the goal of improving survival outcomes for children with high-risk leukaemia.
Professor Georgia Halkett from the Curtin School of Nursing received $139,999 to explore how to better support head and neck cancer survivors in returning to work and living well.
Dr Chloe Maxwell-Smith from the Curtin School of Population Health was awarded $139,803 to investigate the practices and attitudes of regional and rural Western Australians towards early cancer diagnosis.
