Medical Research Future Fund success
Congratulations to the following lead researchers who have successfully been awarded funding by the Medical Research Future Fund to support potentially life changing health and medical research projects.
Associate Professor Shannon Simpson from the School of Allied Health and Telethon Kids Institute was awarded nearly $2 million towards the project “FINGERPRINT: FINdinG Early markers of Respiratory disease for survivors of PReterm birth which IdeNtify Treatable traits”. The research team will use machine learning approaches to better understand the different types of lung disease affecting more than half of people born preterm, to create more effective treatments and better predict those at risk of developing such lung conditions. Dr Daniel Xu from Curtin Medical School was awarded more than $1.36 million for the project “Redefining integrating care to improve health outcomes for people with multimorbid chronic conditions in rural, remote, and very remote WA: Multimorbidity Integrating Care Study”. The project will find effective ways to provide healthcare, including the use of virtual care, to improve the health of individuals with multiple chronic conditions in rural areas of Western Australia.
