NDRI Emeritus Professor Steve Allsop was recently appointed to the UK Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, becoming the first person from outside the UK to join the board.

The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs provides recommendations to government on the control of dangerous or otherwise harmful drugs, including classification and scheduling under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and its regulations.

Since 2023, Professor Allsop has been a member of the Council’s Prevention Subcommittee, which considers advice on preventing drug use and how vulnerable groups can be prevented from using or developing dependence on drugs.

Appointments are usually made by the UK Home Secretary for a term of three years. Congratulations to Professor Allsop on this significant appointment.
