New diversity space open for Women in STEM (WiSTEM)
The Faculty of Science and Engineering has launched a new diversity space for Women in STEM (WiSTEM) to develop, support and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all staff and students who identify as women. The WiSTEM space and program aims to provide a safe and inclusive area for women (cisgender and transgender) and non-binary and gender-diverse individuals who are comfortable in women-centred spaces.
On Wednesday 28 May, staff within the faculty were invited to visit the area for a catered lunch and presentations from Professor James Miller–Jones, Chair of the Faculty’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Committee, Associate Professor Samantha Owen, Director of Gender Equity at Curtin, and Professor Mark Odgen, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Science and Engineering.
The recent opening provided a wonderful opportunity to network, meet the Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Directors from each school and hear about the work Curtin is doing to improve gender equality.
A special thank you to the Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Directors Dr Hilde van der Vyver, Professor Katy Evans, Stacey Carter, Dr Shuang Li and Damien Palermo, as well as their respective committee groups.
Thank you as well to the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor Miller-Jones, Associate Professor Owen, Professor Ogden, and everyone involved in the opening of this new, exciting space!

Kudos to Valerie for pushing for such a space for EECMS 4 years ago which started the conversation within the faculty.
