‘Paw’-some graduation for adorable service pooch-in-training
After 14 months of dedicated study at Curtin, Bruce – the much-loved yellow Labrador – is graduating from campus life this week as he begins his formal Guide Dog training.
Many staff and students have spotted Bruce around Bentley with his volunteer puppy raiser, Kirsty Richards, a PhD student at the School of Molecular and Life Sciences. As an honorary member of her office team, the lovable pooch quickly became a familiar face on campus – whether hard at work or enjoying a well-earned play break.
Now, as he advances to the next stage of his training, Bruce will learn to walk in a harness and ‘guide’ a client, on his way to becoming a fully-fledged Guide Dog. While he will be missed, the Curtin community is excited to see the difference he will make in his future career.
Best of luck, Bruce!

Has been fantastic to see him learning to navigate around the campus and in the Library!

I hope he got to attend the recent grad fest.

How pawsome is that, my father relied heavily on his guide dog for many years. St Cloud gave my father back his sense of freedom. Thank you Kristy and Curtin for helping Bruce.

Well done Kirsty! We'll miss not seeing Bruce around campus. Maybe another one for you to puppy raise?

I can't believe I didn't see Bruce while he was here, my dog radar is obviously faulty. What a beautiful boy.
