Congratulations to the following staff who received funding from the Raine Medical Research Foundation.

  • Dr David Preece from the Curtin School of Population Health was awarded a Raine Priming Grant of $237,164.63, co-funded by the Raine Foundation, Charter Hall, the Cockell Bequest and the BrightSpark Foundation, for his project “Addressing the Loneliness Epidemic in Young People: Bridging Affective and Clinical Science”. As the top applicant in the cohort, David was also named the Raine Robson Fellow.
  • Dr Lisa van der Lee from the Curtin School of Population Health was awarded a Clinician Research Fellowship of $263,030, co-funded by the Raine Foundation and the Future Health Research and Innovation Fund, for her project “Breathe Up” which will help physiotherapists working in the intensive care unit in improving the treatment of patients with pneumonia.
  • Dr Abdul Ihdayhid from the Faculty of Health Sciences received a Research Collaborations Award of $23,420, funded by the Healy Medical Research Foundation, for the project “Patient-Specific CT-Derived Computational Modelling to Optimise Outcomes in Aortic Stenosis” which partners with the Georgia Institute of Technology and will make a less invasive alternative to open heart surgery more durable and accessible to patients.
  • Dr Gizachew Tessema from the Curtin School of Population Health received the Raine BrightSpark Research Prize of $5,000 co-funded by the Raine Foundation and the BrightSpark Foundation for the publication of “Interpregnancy interval and adverse pregnancy outcomes among pregnancies following miscarriages or induced abortions in Norway (2008–2016): A cohort study”.
