The Social Impact Hub recently hosted its final Design Jam for the year, bringing together 30 students across all faculties to support Befriend in tackling youth isolation through authentic community connection.

Guided by a Design Thinking approach, teams worked alongside staff and industry experts from Mens Talk, Town of Cambridge, Youth Disability Advocacy Network and the WA Country Health Service to develop creative solutions that were then pitched to a panel of judges.

Ideas ranged from welcome packs for new residents and a platform sharing disability stories, to a revamped approach to social media and “Connect Me,” a student connection app. The winning idea, ‘Be YOUnique Supper Club’, uses an intimate dinner setting and cultural clothing exchange to foster intercultural understanding and reduce social isolation.

Congratulations to the Social Impact Hub team for the success of the new Design Jam initiatives this year, and many thanks to our students and industry partners for their valuable contributions to these worthy causes.
