Successful MCASI tour through Indonesia
School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry (MCASI) Senior Lecturer Dr Thor Kerr recently led a team of 10 undergraduate students on an exclusive behind the scenes tour of production facilities at Southeast Asia’s largest television network: TVRI (Televisi Republik Indonesia) in Jakarta. TVRI has 32 provincial TV stations with shows in more than 30 languages as well as four national news stations broadcast and streaming.
TVRI broadcast a current affairs item on its 24-hour station celebrating the ground-breaking visit which can be viewed here.
Joined by investment and trade representatives from the WA Government and staff from Universitas Indonesia, this special visit helped strengthen the partnership between Curtin and TVRI, which will open opportunities for future knowledge exchange, joint research and human resource development in the field of media internationally.
The backstage visit was a highlight of a two-month study tour of Indonesia funded through the New Colombo Plan.
Beginning in Surabaya, students were immersed in the local culture and language at Universitas Airlangga and collaborated on joint media productions with students at Universitas Sebelas Maret in consultation with television station, TA Media Group. Ending in Jakarta, where the group visited the English language daily newspaper, The Jakarta Post.
Congratulations to Dr Kerr on a successful study tour.
