Supporting new mothers through an Australian-first pilot
An Australian-first maternal mental health promotion pilot, Space for You, will launch at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) this month, supporting mothers’ mental health and wellbeing after birth.
The project was developed by Curtin PhD candidate Lesley Pascuzzi (School of Nursing), supervised by Associate Professor Zoe Bradfield, in collaboration with South Metropolitan Health Service staff, pregnant women, mothers and midwives across Australia.
Space for You will trial evidence-based health promotion resources in FSH antenatal settings to help improve mental health outcomes for new mothers. The resources draw on lived-experience storytelling from WA women and their families, applying participatory research to create a supportive, meaningful intervention.
The pilot will run from December 2025 to May 2026, with findings informed by Lesley’s PhD research. Read more about the program in the media release here.
