Presented to Curtin Medical School Senior Lecturer Dr Hani Al-Salami by George Young from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA on campus recently, the 2023 Volunteer Employer Recognition Award acknowledges the important role employers play in the delivery of emergency services across the state.

More than 95 per cent of emergency services personnel in WA are volunteers and a supportive employer and flexible workplace enable volunteers to take time off work to attend critical emergency incidents and vital training.

This award recognizes Curtin Medical School and Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute’s support through Dr Hani Al-Salami of his staff member CHIRI Research Assistant Patrick Lim who is a member of the Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade.
