CurtinX
Curtin’s membership in edX, the leading global open-source learning destination founded by Harvard and MIT, provides Curtin with the opportunity to significantly increase global engagement and to showcase excellence and expertise in a number of disciplines.
Curtin joined the edX consortium in May 2015 and as of May 2022 has created and facilitated 41 MOOCs by the end of 2022. Learners who enrol in a Curtin MOOC have the option to audit the course for free or pay for a verified certificate indicating successful completion.
edX membership gives Curtin access to:
- global learners
- emerging learning technologies
- rich data sources
- potential partnerships with consortium partners
- alternative entry pathways into Curtin’s degree programs.
On the edX platform, Curtin currently offers:
- Individual MOOCs
- Two MicroMasters programs which provide pathways into Curtin Masters degrees
- Three Professional Certificate Programs
- One X-Series Program
Curtin is also a pathway provider for other MicroMasters programs (including those offered by MIT, UBC, UC Berkley and UC San Diego) to a Curtin Masters degree. Industry partnerships include Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies and Cisco Network Academy.

MOOC/program proposals
To ensure that the courses hosted on edX appropriately reflect Curtin’s strategic vision and goals the following key elements are required:

- Course is innovative and has international appeal and global demand. Target audience needs to be specified.
- May provide an entry pathway to an online Curtin degree. This may be into an existing degree or a proposed new degree, preferably at postgraduate level. CRL needs to be specified.
- Resources and/or activities created for the MOOC can be re-used or re-purposed in Curtin courses and units.
- The course can potentially be part of a series of related CurtinX courses (programs include Professional Certificates, MicroMasters). MicroMasters proposals will require nomination of an industry/company willing to provide endorsement of the program.
