Collaborating and partnering with industry

Curtin’s research strategy focuses on building and consolidating relationships with our industry partners to address industry needs. Curtin supports industry partners through a number of mechanisms:

1. Innovation Central

Innovation Central Perth is an industry and research collaboration centre at Curtin University, established by Cisco with foundation partners Curtin University and Woodside Energy. With over 80 researchers and links to advanced facilities and a global industry network, it brings together start-ups, industry experts, developers and researchers in an open environment to create ground-breaking and innovative solutions that foster growth, provide jobs and help build sustainable economies.

3. Research institutes and centres

Research centres and institutes are established to facilitate, extend and enable the promotion and conduct of research, development and related activities in well-defined areas of research strength that support the University’s mission, vision and goals.

A research institute may include a number of research centres and be cross-disciplinary in nature.

The fundamental criteria for the formation and continuation of research institutes and research centres are:

  • Conduct world standard research
  • Focus on high quality research outputs
  • Significant higher degree by research load
  • Sustainable critical mass of researchers.

Sensitive discussions with potential collaborators

Discussions with potential collaborators may involve sharing information on the proposed research or conducting preliminary testing (for no fee) to determine whether collaboration is viable. To protect Curtin’s and/or the potential collaborator’s confidential information during these discussions, a confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement may be required. Please contact the Contracts and Commercial team or the Strategic Projects Office if you are presented with an agreement for signing, or if you have concerns about yours or Curtin’s confidential information.
